WYCIWYG
What You Change Is What You Get!
WYCIWYG (What You Change Is What You Get) is a next-gen proofreading system that lets users review and edit PDF proofs in near real-time.
How does WYCIWYG help you?
WYCIWYG removes the need for numerous exchanges of files among proofreaders, editors, and typesetters, which is both time-intensive and prone to errors.
To review proofs and markup or to update previous edition content for a new edition, open the proof pages in WYCIWYG. This shows a two-pane view of the proof - PDF on the left and editable XHTML on the right.
Review the PDF as you normally would. You can make this full screen for easy reading. If you wish to make a change, click on the paragraph that you wish to edit. This will bring up the same paragraph in the editable version of the file. Make the change and proceed.
Changes made are tracked by default. It is important to save the changes periodically.
Once the review/revision is complete, the changes can be automatically incorporated in the typeset application file at the touch of a button.
Review the revised proofs to see if any adjustments to the layout are required. Proofing cycle simplified!
Getting Started
Users are provided with a synchronized two-pane view: one that displays the PDF to be reviewed and the other, a linked and editable (internally linked) XHTML version of the same PDF. Authors and proofreaders can review the PDF as usual by scrolling through it and making textual changes in the editable XHTML.

Benefits
A simplified review and revision option.

Changes are not marked, but directly made in the file, allowing no room for errors due to misinterpretation of markup. All changes are tracked, and only the tracked changes are updated in the application file at the touch of a button. Any layout adjustments made earlier are preserved.
No more interpretation errors. Save costs.
Do it once, and do it right.

Traditional proofreading requires changes to proof pages to be marked up and for a compositor to incorporate these changes into the application file.

Overall reduction in time for the review process is at least 50%.
Reviewer experience
A synchronized two-pane view allows reviewers to make changes to content without having to markup page proofs. They have the luxury of generating revisions to see the effect of the changes made.

WYCIWYG allows real-time editing of content, and removes the task of transferring copy corrections.

> 50% increase in efficiency
Eliminates the need to mark-up changes on paper or as comments on PDFs and the subsequent steps of manual incorporation of the changes into InDesign. The quality of output is exceptional as there is no room for misinterpretation of markup.
“4000+ authors over a period of two years across various publications from Medical Books publishers, University Presses, Schools, and Monograph publishers have pressure-tested this functionality successfully”.
